Handmade Christmas Ornaments for your Christmas Tree

Preparing these Christmas tree ornaments is something I really enjoy. With a small budget, some work, a dash of imagination, and a bit of skill, you can create these lovely Christmas decorations.

This time, I’ll take you on a colorful and fun journey as we explore how to craft beautiful Christmas tree ornaments entirely by hand. But there’s a twist in this story: we’ll be using foam sheets, a vibrant and very versatil material, to bring life into our ornaments.

Picture round ornaments in a palette of bright colors, each with its unique touch, ready to fill your Christmas tree with joy and personality.

These handmade ornaments will add a unique charm to your Christmas decor, and the best part is that they’re a great activity for the whole family to enjoy together. One of the first steps on our creative journey was figuring out how to shape the foam sheets to create round ornaments that capture the essence of Christmas.

We discovered that cutting circles of different sizes and colors was an effective way to start our adventure. The foam circles provided us with the perfect base for our ornaments, and from there, our creativity began to flow. So, get ready to immerse yourself in the magic of Christmas and learn how to create spectacular foam sheet ornaments!

To make these Christmas Ornaments for the Christmas tree you need the following:

  • foamy
  • scissors
  • glue glun
  • glue sticks
  • round lid or round object
  • string or ribbon

Step by Step Tutorial

Take the lid or the round object and trace the shape on the piece of foamy. Then cut with the scissors. Fold the circle in half and cut into two pieces, creating two semi-circles. Apply hot glue and stick from the center of the semi-circle to the tip.

Glue the two pieces leaving the tips facing outwards.

When you have all the semi-circles ready, decide the order in which you want to arrange them and then begin to stick with each other until you complete it. For the largest ornament  I used 10 semi-circles of each color. But remember that the amount will depend on the colors you are using to make your Christmas Tree Ornament.

To close it, join the two extremes. When closing it, two holes will remain, one at the top and one at the base.

To create the part that will hold the ornament and the base of the ornament, you’ll need to cut two strips, one for the top and the other for the bottom of the ornament or base.

The width of these strips doesn’t matter as it will depend on the gap left in your ornament. Take one of the strips and roll it up into a cylinder shape that fits snugly into the center gap of the ornament.

For the one that will be placed at the top, add a cord to create a loop for hanging.
